BETTER BY BIKE
If there's one thing that relieved our vulnerability in this pandemic, it was the numerous creative and athletic outlets that we utilized in order to escape boredom. Dancing, cooking, painting, biking and the list goes on infinitely. The streets of Piraeus were quickly filled with pedestrians, bikers, people playing in the football courts, children running along the parks and playgrounds. The city has never been this active, and even past the date of the official "end" of the quarantine (or self-isolation, if you will), people remain active.
But there's one thing that needs to be done. We need to ensure the safety of those people, and promote the active lifestyle that we have just started to adjust to. For that reason, the Biker community of Piraeus has created a petition aimed towards our officials, asking for the necessary actions (and funds) to aid our Municipality into actively repairing our roads and sidewalks, creating bicycle paths around the city. This way, we can ensure that the safety precautions will be followed, while still encouraging physical exercise with an active lifestyle.
I met up with one of the representatives of this movement, Frantzeska Romanou, who talked to me about this movement and what it stands for.
You can sign the petition and support the movement right here.
